A 20-year-old woman from Mosta died today from injuries suffered 13 months ago in an accident which also claimed her boyfriend's life.

Kirsty Vassallo was returning from work with Fernando Schembri, 22, when their Rover crashed into a  house in an area known as Ta’ Mrejnu, the road between Ghajn Tuffiegha and Mgarr on September 13 last year.

He died two days later and his organs were donated.

She suffered severe head injuries and was in hospital for months.

She underwent intensive treatment in Malta and overseas and public appeals to fund her treatment were made. But  her parents announced her passing earlier today on facebook.

"It is with a heavy heart and great sadness that we announce that our beloved Kirsty has passed away this morning. Many thanks for the support you have shown Kirsty and all her family in these difficult 13 months," they wrote.
