A section dedicated to the treatment of acute burns was opened this morning within the Plastic Surgery and Burns Unit of Mater Dei Hospital today.

The section consists of five beds and specialised equipment.

Health Minister Godfrey Farrugia said the section was taking up space which was  previously unutilised.

He said 32 new beds had been added to acute units across at the hospital this year and he was aiming to increase this number by a further 68 by the end of 2015.
