More than 300 people will be taking advantage of a record investment of €2.3 million worth of scholarships in the Master It programme.

The scholarships, which were awarded last night in a ceremony at the Mediterranean Conference Centre, have become more inclusive and range from theology, literature, science, dance and drama, Education Minister Evarist Bartolo said in a press conference.

The “record number” of applicants, which amounted to around 500, led the Government to utilise more funds. In fact, EU Funds Parliamentary Secretary Ian Borg said they added an extra €700,000 to the original budget of €2 million.

While the scholarship scheme will be offered in the future, both Dr Borg and Mr Bartolo said it would not be given to such a large number of applicants. “We managed to extend the budget this year as there were still some funds that had not yet been utilised,” Dr Borg said.

The Master It programme was launched in April 2013 by the Education Ministry and is partly funded by the EU.
