The new Apple iPhone 5s and iPhone 5c will be officially available in Malta from Friday, October 25, around a month later than the initial launch, the international technology provider has announced.

Malta thus joins such countries as Italy, Spain, Russia, the Netherlands, the Scandinavian countries, New Zealand and Taiwan. More countries around the world will get it a week later.

Apple’s local partners are preparing for the launch. Vodafone Malta, Apple’s local official telecoms partner, is already taking pre-orders on its website. iCentre of Pietà is Apple’s authorised service provider in Malta for the full range of Apple products, including the computers and iPad.

Some local retailers and mobile operators have already been stocking the devices but they don’t provide Apple’s official support to customers.

The iPhone 5s is an upgrade of the iPhone 5 launched a few months ago while the 5c is a lower-end version of its brother which also comes in bright colours and is cheaper.

The iPhone 5s has an Apple-designed A7 64-bit chip, an all-new 8 megapixel iSight camera with True Tone flash and a fingerprint recognition facility.

The iPhone 5c features an all-new colourful design, a four-inch Retina display, an A6 chip, and the 8 megapixel iSight camera. iPhone 5s and iPhone 5c both offer 4G connectivity, which is coming soon to Malta, and all-new FaceTime HD cameras.

Both smartphones come with the latest iOS 7 operating system, which is also available for download for some of the older iPhone models. However, some iOS 7 features are not available in Malta, and these include the viewing of TV programmes in iTunes, some features in maps and some features in Siri, the voice-activated interaction facility.
