Hopes that Edinburgh Zoo’s female giant panda would produce a rare cub have been dashed for the time being. Experts say that Tian Tian, who was successfully inseminated in April, has lost her baby in the late stages of pregnancy. The Royal Zoological Society of Scotland’s chief executive Chris West said: “We are all saddened by this turn of events after so many weeks of waiting.”
