The 2013 Waterpolo Player of the Year award has gone to Neptunes WPSC forward Steve Camilleri, the third time in a row that the 26-year-old won this honour, having also scooped this award in 2007 when he was 20 years of age.

Camilleri again had an outstanding season both for the Balluta Bay Reds, who landed the championship for the fourth consecutive year, and the national team.

He netted a staggering total of 98 goals for his club and country (66 and 32) in all competitions, besides winning the Player of the Month award twice.

It was also the fourth time in succession that Camilleri, currently engaged with RN Bogliasco, for whom he was the number one scorer for four out of the last five years, ended as top marksman.

The Division One Player of the Year honour went to Andreas Galea, a prodigious San Ġiljan youngster, son of veteran player Tony Galea.

Last season the lad was on loan at Ta’ Xbiex and was among the top scorers for his team.

Galea was also the most prolific goal-getter with 10 goals from five matches for the Malta Under-17 side when competing in last month’s Euro Junior Championship.

Certainly, the game’s followers will hear more of this player who should be one of the stalwarts of Maltese waterpolo in future years.
