Updated - A horse bolted in busy Aldo Moro Road in Marsa at 6.30 a.m. today, compounding problems for motorists on a road where two lanes had already been closed because of trenching works.

The horse damaged a Hyundai car and was itself injured before it was reined in. The horse was later put down.

No one was injured but the police said all but one lane were closed for traffic heading towards Hamrun.

A traffic jam backed up all the way to Fgura and Zabbar. The horse was removed from the street shortly after 8.30 a.m. but drivers reported still being  stuck on the roads at 8.40.

Motorists were urged to use the Dock 7 road as an alternative.

The traffic situation returned to normal at about 9 a.m.
