This year’s L-Istrina BOV Piggy Bank campaign was launched at San Anton Palace, Attard, by President George Abela and his wife Margaret.

The campaign sees over 5,000 piggy banks distributed to schools across Malta and Gozo, as well as in the main shopping outlets. Work on this campaign starts months earlier, with volunteers from the Malta Girl Guides working to clean the fleet of piggy banks and prepare them for distribution. The latter task is entrusted to the Armed Forces of Malta, who visit schools twice: to distribute and to collect the piggy banks.

BOV’s CEO Charles Borg thanked the President, saying he was honoured to represent the bank during the launch of L-Istrina Piggy Bank Campaign, which this year marks its 10th anniversary.

“This campaign is very dear to us because it touches upon several important pillars we treasure. Through this campaign, the young generation experiences the beauty of donating without expecting anything in return,”Dr Abela said.

“This is the first time 250 heads and principals gather to launch the Piggy Bank campaign publicly. Without doubt, the support of each and every head has been instrumental in the success of the campaign. The funds collected over the past four years increased significantly thanks to everyone’s generosity,” he added.

Mrs Abela will be visiting various schools over the next couple of months, where young children will showcase their talents.

Deloitte have been tasked with overseeing the campaign from beginning to end.
