A language teaching seminar was recently organised in Malta under the aegis of the European Centre for Modern Languages (ECML), a Council of Europe institution based in Graz, Austria.

The seminar focused on the theme ‘Enhancing Language Teaching Materials and Pedagogy’. It enabled language teachers, teacher educators, policy-makers, researchers and other multipliers to discuss some of the current issues in relation to language teaching and learning and some of the most innovative approaches to language pedagogy and materials design.

The event served as an opportunity to create synergy among some of the main stakeholders in the field of language teaching in Malta.

In his address, Daniel Xerri, chairman of the English as a Foreign Language Monitoring Board, expressed the hope that the seminar would act as a springboard for the creation of a forum for language teaching professionals in Malta to come together on a regular basis to discuss issues that concern their practice as well as provide feedback on policy.

ECML executive director Waldemar Martyniuk said the seminar would contribute to his institution’s efforts to develop and promote innovative approaches and tools, disseminating best practices, training multipliers, and developing professional networks.

The seminar was organised by the ECML’s Language Associations and Collaborative Support project.
