The video for their single Ronnie earlier this year brought out a side to Skimmed that fully exploited the song’s retrospective twist. Standing out as one of this year’s more prominent local music videos, it also set the bar for the band’s next release a little higher.

This is a challenge the band is well aware of as it gears up to launch Summer Lovers, the title track of its debut album, as its new single, along with an accompanying music video.

In contrast to that of Ronnie, the video for Summer Lovers features a more nostalgic and psychedelic aesthetic, based around a concept by band members Daniel Borg and Alexandra Aquilina, along with Adrian Abela, who also directed and produced the video. Filming was done over the span of a year or so in order to capture the best outdoor lighting, since this plays an important part in the video’s setting.

Skimmed will be launching the Summer Lovers video at Coach & Horses in Msida on Friday. The event will feature live performances from Skimmed and support act Cat Cake, the latter a surf-punk-rock trio that will be performing live for the first time. Further to the original edit of Summer Lovers, a remix version by Miss Roberta will also be hitting the local airwaves very shortly.

Skimmed’s Summer Lovers album was partly funded by the Malta Arts Fund and the Good Causes Fund.
