Cinemagoers are in for a treat this autumn, with at least 16 blockbusters hitting the screens by Boxing Day.

KRS Film Distributors’ schedule includes 35 new films in digital format, 11 of which in 3D.

The line-up varies from animation adventures, action thrillers and comedy to drama, fantasy adventures and sci-fi.

Films this month include Oliver Hirshbiegel’s drama Diana; Captain Phillips, which was partly filmed in Malta; and Turbo.

The Family, The Counsellor and The Hunger Games: Catching Fire are among the films to hit the screens next month.

The main highlights of the festive season will include Grace of Monaco, Frozen, The Hobbit: the Desolation of Smaug and 47 Ronin.

KRS managing director Charles Pace said six films topped the box office charts this summer.

The Smurfs 2 spent four weeks at number 1, followed by World War Z and Percy Jackson: Sea of Monsters, which were on top for three weeks.
