Television personality Nirvana Ciavola Azzopardi has passed away after losing her battle against breast cancer.

Ms Azzopardi, 40, a mother of two, passed away peacefully at home.

She was diagnosed with an aggressive and rare type of cancer two years ago.

Hundreds of people of all ages had taken part in a walk of solidarity held in St Julian’s in January this year. The walk was held to raise awareness about breast cancer.

Ms Azzopardi's cancer spread through her lymph nodes and attacked her liver and eventually bone. She eventually succumbed to liver failure despite undergoing various forms of treatment overseas and in Malta.

Ms Azzopardi is remembered for a variety of programmes, including Flat 4, one of the earliest reality shows in Malta and co-founded Teatru Unplugged in 1998, bringing new talent and established bands to the elitist Manoel Theatre for the first time. He was also one of the presenters of the Song for Europe contest.

She also worked briefly at Enemalta public relations officer.
