Marsa played the first two matches from the three in schedule against Fiddlers CC last weekend.

The home team batted first and were bowled out for a mere 159 runs.

Had it not been for a brilliant innings from Haroon Majeed, who rode his luck on his way to a 52, the score would have been worse for Marsa as Fiddlers also ‘helped’ the locals with 23 extras.

The Marsa top order of John Grima (13), Andrew Naudi (14) and Tony Azzopardi (25) all had starts but failed to capitalise. Only Bikram Arora made it into double figures from the lower order of batsmen, making 12 runs.

For Fiddlers, N. Haines claimed three wickets and L. Beard and M. Baglow took two each.

Baglow opened the batting and had Fiddlers heading into the right direction with his 31 runs.

P. Langford, from the middle order, was the visitors’ top-scorer though with 32 runs and David Woodworth added another 25.

Fiddlers required ten runs for victory off their last over but in came Arora to turn the tide in his team’s favour. He only gave away two runs while claiming his fourth wicket of the game for Marsa to clinch the victory.

Sunday’s game was reduced to a 30-over. The hosts batted first with two of their finest batsmen stealing the show as Frank Spiteri’s 61 included four fours and a six while Arora hit a fiery 47 (three fours and three sixes).

The home team totalled 148 runs. For Fiddlers, Haines again proved himself the better bowler and took four wickets.

The visitors, here on their seventh tour, could only manage 126 in their reply with J. Hewitt (26) and S. Jessup (24) their main contributors.

Arora, again, was a headache for his opponents and took three wickets while Sumair Khan and Sarfraz Ali took two each.

Marsa opened an unassailable 2-0 lead in the three-game series and will be looking to complete a whitewash tomorrow.

On Saturday, Marsa host another mini-series, this time the opponents will be Romany (second tour) and Washington (fifth visit).
