Labour Party deputy leader Toni Abela has condemned a party official’s public rant on irregular migrants, saying she will be spoken to. Dr Abela said he “absolutely disagreed” with declarations like those made by PL equal opportunities officer Rachel Tua, who is also a Mosta local councillor.
Reacting to an incident in which a Maltese teenager was attacked by a Somali and Palestinian, Dr Tua wrote on her Facebook wall: “Not only do they illegally invade us but are now conducting acts of theft and violence upon our citizens... such acts are zero tolerance.”
Dr Tua also suggested Malta should follow Australia’s example and practise pushbacks.
Times of Malta yesterday reported Dr Tua defending her arguments, saying Maltese citizens came “first and foremost” for her.
