Karma Skies is a relatively new act on the local scene, and essentially owes its formation to the St Aloysius College Soirée.

It was some two years ago that the six young ladies, four singers, a guitarist and a pianist with individual aspirations to be onstage, first got together. Their goal was to perform at their Alma Mater’s 2012 concert, and of course, having not one, but four vocalists, their performance was bound to attract attention.

It did; enough, in fact, to spur them on in giving further performances. Boosted by the positive feedback they were getting, Karma Skies then decided to record their version of Fun’s Some Nights.

The single, recorded with Conrad Dimech at Blacklight Studios and for which a video was also produced, was posted on You Tube, getting several thousand views and bringing this new talent to the attention of a much wider audience.

Eight months on and the band is back, not with a cover this time, but with a self-penned original called Bittersweet September. A collective effort written during summer rehearsals, the song was recorded at Railway Studios with Peter Borg.

Packing a very strong melody, albeit nestling within a none-too-conventional structure, Bittersweet September also highlights the girls’ vocal harmonies, an essential factor in this line-up that will almost certainly play a dominant role in shaping future releases by Karma Skies.

The new single and accompanying music video – once again produced by NeuronFX – are available for streaming on You Tube.

Karma Skies is Annalise Bellizzi, Michela Scerri, Loredana Grech, Odelsie Camilleri (all vocals), Caroline Caruana (piano) and Sheryl Camilleri (guitar).
