It is rather shocking and extremely disappointing to see about 20 trees of different species dying all at the same time! This is happening in the bottom part of the beautiful valley of Santa Maria Estate, a valley that has always been verdant and healthy.

The valley is a protected area in the structure and the local plans of Mepa.

As the trees all happen to be along a road where Mepa had imposed strict conditions, that trees and the natural environment have to be protected, one cannot help but suspect that somebody decided to remove the inconvenience of the trees and the ‘surrounding environment’ so that there will be nothing worth protecting.

Of course, one can only suspect but I’m confident that Mepa and the agriculture authorities have technical people who could determine how and why these trees are dying, if not already dead.

It would be important to show that abusers cannot get away with such crime lightly.

The trees might be on private land but, particularly in such a delicate and important environment, protected as a watercourse, to remove a tree proper permissions would be required.

In this case, that has been obviously bypassed not for one tree but for about 20 trees.
