In support of Car Free Day today, Citadel Insurance last Friday sponsored 50 per cent of the Valletta Electric Cabs fee.  Through this initiative, Citadel is promoting the increased use of this greener means of transportation in and around our capital city.

Citadel Insurance employees also played a direct role in the promotion of initiatives aimed at improving air quality.  They used alternative means to reach their offices on Tuesday.

Citadel staff travelled to work by means of car sharing, others used mini-buses, while some were more adventurous and opted for the water taxi. Those working close to the company’s branch network around Malta travelled on foot. The benefit gained from this initiative was two-fold, as staff donated the money saved on fuel to charity.

“At first glance, it seemed to be a challenge to find alternative means of transport, but we had quite a number of interesting suggestions. I’m very proud that Citadel’s staff proposed to promote car-free day, which idea was fully supported by management. Everyone was keen to do their part to reduce their carbon footprint,” Angela Tabone, managing director of Citadel Insurance plc, said.

Citadel rewards clients who safeguard the environment through savings available on branded eco home and motor polices. Customers benefit from special prices if they own cars with low Co2 emissions, or install solar water heaters or PVs.

Citadel’s long-term commitment is to encourage awareness on a cleaner environment. The company has been sponsoring a Valletta green cab since 2008 as part of its corporate social responsibility towards reducing carbon footprint.

Regulated by the MFSA, Citadel offers a wide range of innovative insurance solutions for home, motor, marine, life, business and travel insurance. For more information visit www.citadelplc.com.
