Two hooded men wearing black, one of them armed, stole some €1,500 in cash during a hold-up at AMG Cold Stores in Triq Abattoir, Marsa at around 3.40pm.

The police said that none of hte four people who were at the cold stores at the time were injured.

The men took off in a Freelander, reported stolen in August last year and carrying plates stolen last August.

The Freelander was set on fire further down from the Marsa Power Station at Triq il-Moll tal-Knisja and it is believed that the thieves left the area in another car.

The fire was put out by members of the Civil Protection Department who also directed water hoses into a nearby garage from where smoke was seen.

The police asked the Marsa Power Station for CCTV footage, which they are now examining.

An inquiry is being held.
