O Globo reports President Dilma Rousseff of Brazil has called off next month’s meeting in Washington with President Barack Obama amid allegations that the of US National Security Agency had snooped on her phone calls and Internet communications with aides. xdzzsc4wqter's motive, the Pentagon said it would review security at US military bases worldwide.

Al Arabiya says Syrian opposition chief Ahmad Jarba has urged the Security Council to adopt a resolution under Chapter VII of the UN charter allowing use of force to cripple Syria's “war machine”.  

Austrian’s ORF Radio reports police have found the body they believe is a man suspected of shooting dead three policemen and a paramedic. The charred body was discovered at the farmhouse where he lived near Melk, Lower Austria, after special forces stormed the building. The drama began when officers tried to arrest the man on suspicion of poaching.

Corriere della Sera reports that following the successful righting of the Costa Concordia cruise ship on Tuesday, focus has now turned to the renewed search for the two bodies that were never recovered and the resumption on Monday of the trial of the ship's captain, Francesco Schettino for alleged manslaughter, causing a shipwreck and abandoning the ship before all its 4,200 passengers and crew had been evacuated. 

Worchester Gazette reports a Massachusetts man who chatted online with other men about their desire to kidnap, rape, kill and eat children has been sentenced to nearly 27 years in prison. Officers prosecuting Geoffrey Portway, 40, showed the jury photos of a basement dungeon he had built, a child-sized coffin, butchering tools and metal restraints.

USA Today says a man who helped a priest sell methamphetamine was has been sentenced to 27 months in prison. The defence attorney said Kenneth DeVries, 53, was influenced by his drug addiction and respect for the priest, Mgr Kevin Wallin, who was the pastor of St Augustine Parish in Bridgeport for nine years. He resigned in 2011, citing health and personal reasons. 

Radio Coruna says a mystery Spanish lottery player who bought a ticket that won €4.7m in a local draw accidentally left it in the shop. Now the search is on for the winner after the ticket was found and handed in to authorities.  

La Stampa reports that police arrested a caregiver near Turin on Tuesday charged with offering her body to an 82-year-old pensioner in exchange for €100,000 and for writing her into his will. Using hidden cameras, the police caught the suspect, a 46-year-old, in the act of exploiting the man, who had made her the sole recipient of his inheritance. Police were acting on accusations from the man's grandchildren.
