A mystery Spanish lottery player who bought a ticket that won €4.7 million in a local draw accidentally left it in the shop.

Now the town of Coruna is searching for the winner after the ticket for June 30, 2012 was found and handed in to authorities.

The town hall website posted notice of the ticket among the city's lost-and-found items along with phones, keys and wallets.

Mayor Carlos Negreira joked he would be the first mayor to search for a millionaire "not to ask for money but to give it."

He said there would be rigorous checks on the authenticity of any ownership claims. If the original purchaser is not found the money will go to the ticket finder.
