A horse bolted near Fort St Elmo this morning, damaging five cars but injuring no one.

The case happened at about 11am.

The police said the horse had been tied to a support column of a horse cab shelter when it bolted. Attempts by the cabby, 35, residing in Birkirkara, to restrain it were futile as it ripped the strap it was tied with and fled.

Disoriented, the horse crashed into an Opel Corsa driven by a man, 59, residing in San Pawl il-Baħar, who consequently collided with a Renault Megane driven by a man, 48, residing in Fgura.

The horse then slipped and skidded into a Nissan Primera driven by a man, 38, residing in Żebbuġ, before wedging itself between two parked cars, a Toyota Vitz and a Mercedes Benz C220. It fell and was restrained near Evans Building, close to where it had bolted.
