Film Commissioner Peter Busuttil recently welcomed US Ambassador Gina Abercrombie-Winstanley to an informative talk on the Malta film industry.

An overview on the industry was presented to the US Ambassador with a view to consolidate relations with the US and to outline the commission’s objectives to attract film producers to Malta.

The Film Commission presented its work and objectives to market Malta to film producers and distribution contacts to help local productions and create training opportunities in film to increase and strengthen a level of professionalism in Malta.

The US Ambassador applauded the initiatives and showed tremendous passion for the industry. Malta has seen bigger and larger-scale productions from the US over the years. Since 2000, 26 per cent of all feature movies filmed in Malta were actually American productions and co-productions. US productions filmed in Malta include some of the best Hollywood has produced and have proved a turning point for the Malta film industry, providing various opportunities to the Maltese.

Beverly Cutajar, chairwoman of the Malta Film Commission, was also present.
