The State broadcaster yesterday denied that an idea for a game show involving married couples was in any way stolen.

Producer David Charles Bajada claimed in a judicial protest last week that a production company had stolen his idea for the show and that Public Broadcasting Services Ltd was in possession of a demo tape he had given them but was never aired.

He said that after hearing nothing from PBS about the tape he spoke to the owners of Rewind Productions about his idea. But after they failed to contact him months down the line he approached another production company. An agreement was reached and the programme was set to be aired.

However, a similar show called The Wedding Battle was due to be aired by Rewind Productions, Mr Bajada said, adding that this was his idea that had been stolen.

In a counter-protest, PBS said that Mr Bajada’s idea for the show, called the The First Dance, was nothing like the one produced by Rewind Productions, insisting it was not a stolen idea. PBS said it had no commercial relationship with Mr Bajada and never had one and, as such, could not understand why it was being held responsible.

PBS asked Mr Bajada to desist from making any further allegations against it.
