Malta is committed to enhancing its growing aviation register and is keen on becoming a service leader in aviation, Tourism Minister Karmenu Vella said this morning.

As he addressed the second Mediterranean Business Aviation Conference being held in Malta, Mr Vella said the country was also in the process of completing its National Aviation Policy.

This policy is being drawn up by the Consultative Aviation Advisory Committee, set up soon after the new administration took office.

He said Malta's aviation history goes back almost a century and how the country now had one of the largest aviation registers in Europe.

Almost a third of the aircraft on this register are business aircraft and the government was committed to see this figure grow. He spoke of how Malta had over 50 double taxation agreements in place as well as advantageous tax regimes for companies setting up shop in Malta.
