Steve Camilleri, of Neptunes Emirates, is the BOV player of the month for August.
Certainly no stranger to these prizes, Camilleri peaked at the most crucial moments in this summer’s National League to lead the Reds to their fourth consecutive title after a mammoth battle with Balluta Bay rivals San Ġiljan Sir Alex who only conceded defeat in a tense decider.
Camilleri’s all-round contribution, as well as his vision of the game, were among the key elements that led the jurors to award him the honour.
He finished the season as top scorer with 64 goals.
The Division One award went to Valletta United goalkeeper Ryan Sciortino for his second successive prize in the contest.
A string of fine saves and the ability to inspire and marshal his defence led the City team to three major titles in their category in the season just ended.
It is to be noted that Sciortino’s performances helped Valletta concede 30 goals fewer than their nearest rivals in the final stan-dings, Marsascala Mor€.
Joyce Tabone, head media and community relations at BOV, and Joe Caruana Curran, ASA presi-dent, handed out the awards to Camilleri and Sciortino.
