From that classic tagline: “Just when you thought it was safe to get back into the water”, to that mysterious fin, Steven Spielberg’s 1970s film Jaws devoured its way into film history and created the summer movie blockbuster phenomenon.
The film will be the subject of a presentation and discussion organised by Euro Media Forum at Palazzo Depiro in Mdina, today at 7pm. Educator Peter Mann and shark expert Greg Nowell will be exploring the legacy and impact of this timeless thriller, delving into how it became an instant blockbuster and one of the most enduring action-suspense films of all time.
The film’s movie poster – featuring a female swimmer out at sea, oblivious of the threatening primal beast swimming up towards her from the depths – is still scary to this day. Even John Williams’s musical score has become a classic of its kind.
The audience is invited to participate and put forward to the panel their questions, curiosities and observations. They may also win a number of prizes in a Jaws quiz.
Limited seating is available. Tickets at €10, which include wrapsand a glass of wine, are available from Palazzo Depiro. For bookings please e-mail euromediaforum@gmail.com, send an SMS to 9945 4066, or log on to www.facebook. com/Euro.Media.Forum.
