Non-Maltese EU citizens living in Malta who do not have an ID card or residence document can apply for registration to vote in next year’s European Parliament elections.

They can apply to be put on the electoral register at the Electoral Office, Evans Building, St Elmo Square, Valletta, where they can also complete their residence application.

However, this application process has been harshly criticised over delays and confusion about new procedures introduced since the election.

In view of Croatia’s EU membership, the Electoral Commission said Croatian citizens living on the islands and holding a Malta ID card or residence document can register to vote for candidates standing for the MEP election in Malta.

Those interested can also fill in the appropriate form available on the Electoral Commission’s website www.electoral.gov.mt.

The closing date for the next MEP election register, to be published in October, is September 30. Enquiries by e-mail may be made to electoral.office@gov.mt.
