Without a clear strategy for tourism, the Government would be putting several industries that benefitted from the sector at risk, PN tourism spokesman Robert Arrigo said.

Mr Arrigo said in a statement that the Nationalist Party was ready to contribute to see this important sector continue to develop and progress. From the Opposition, the PN was already studying its policy on tourism, including Air Malta to continue developing ideas and submitting proposals for the development of the sector.

Statistics published in the past days confirmed the PN’s wisdom to continue developing tourism as a fundamental bastion of the economy in the past legislature. It invested in the product, infrastructure and advertising to place Malta on the tourism map creating thousands of jobs for Maltese and Gozitans.

However, the PL Government could not assume that these results would continue to be achieved unless it continued to improve the country’s core markets and opened new ones.

The Tourism Ministry was expected to give an inkling of its vision, strategy and action for such a crucial sector, rather than rely on the strategies implemented by the previous Government.

Those working in the sector wanted to know whether the Government planned to introduce new markets and create new routes, what new projects and initiatives were being developed and what was being done to attract cruise liner companies to Malta, Mr Arrigo said.
