Nello Calleja has just received an appointment from the European Committee Volleyball for Disabled (ECVD) to act as one of the referees for the European ParaVolley Championship which is going to be played in Poland between September 16 and 22.

Calleja will be one of a team of 25 sitting volley referees who will be officiating at the competition which is held every two years.

Matches will be played at the Sports and Business Centre in Elblag, a town around 60km east of Gdansk in northern Poland.

Thirteen men’s national teams will be divided into four groups, with Bosnia, Serbia and Croatia in Group A, Ukraine, Netherlands, Hungary and Latvia in Group B, Germany, Poland and Azerbaijan in Group C, and Russia, Lithuania and Great Britain in Group D.

Current European sitting volley champions Bosnia start as clear favourites, with Germany and Russia the rank outsiders.

In the women’s competition, Ukraine, Slovenia, Germany and Croatia will face each other in Group A. The Netherlands, Russia, Hungary, Poland and Finland will fight it out in Group B.

Ukraine, crowned European Champions in 2011, and the Netherlands should be the teams to watch.
