Q: Four months before my wedding date, I put a €200 deposit on two bridesmaid dresses. The dresses had to be delivered tome one month before the actual wedding date.

A few days before the promised delivery date, I called the shop owner to check whether the dresses had arrived.

At this point, the seller told me there was going to be a delay in the delivery, and that the dresses should arrive in a few days’ time. I called the seller again when the new delivery date approached and, to my surprise, I was informed that the dresses were not coming and offered to have the dresses sewn by the trader’s dressmaker.

My wedding date is only three weeks away. I would like to know what my rights are?

A: You can accept the seller’s offer of having the bridesmaid dresses sewn by the dressmaker at no extra cost, and having the same quality as the dressesyou ordered.

If this solution is not acceptable to you, you can ask for your deposit back. If you opt to cancel the order and you incur additional expenses for having tofind other bridesmaid dresses at such short notice, you may also claim compensation for these extra costs.
