The Malta Shortsea Promotion Centre (MSPC) is applying for EU funds for organising a training seminar for Maltese participants at the Escola de Shortsea Shipping in Barcelona, as well as finalising an internal study on the educational and training courses in Malta related to transport and logistics.

The MSPC was launched in November 2006 as the focal point for promoting and improving multimodal transport initiatives in Malta, and enhance the transport sector contribution to the local economy and Malta’s cohesion with Europe and its neighbours.

Its membership is aimed at ship agents, terminal operators, freight forwarders, trailer operators and port services providers and their representative associations.

Shortsea shipping involves the movement of cargo and passengers by sea between European ports, and non-European countries having a coastline on the enclosed seas bordering Europe.

The first six months of 2013 were busy for MSPC, with four new members and a number of activities. MSPC was also appointed as coordinator for the East Med sector for the European Shortsea Network Project “ESN – The Way Forward”, which deals with the collation of data and other market information on shortsea shipping on a Europe wide basis.

For further details and membership, contact MSPC on info@shortsea.org.mt.
