The Festina 10K Night Run, organised recently by Żurrieq Wolves AC for the third consecutive year, has been another success.

The race, held over the Mdina Road circuit in Żebbuġ, is the only night race on the local long distance running calendar. This year participation levels increased to 120 runners.

Andrew Grech, of Mellieħa AC, won the race in 34 minutes and 17 seconds.

St Patrick’s AC duo, Steve Chetcuti (35:03) and Jonathan Balzan (35:17), followed Grech home in that order.

Doreen Camilleri, of Żurrieq Wolves, won the women’s race in 41 minutes, 27 seconds.

Mona Lisa Camilleri, of AS Libertas, was second in 42 minutes, 49 seconds and Giannella Bugeja third (42.59).

Apart from trophies to the first three in both men’s and women’s categories, presented by Żurrieq Wolves club president Wilfred Sammut, awards were also distributed to the first in each age category.

The ‘open’ category winners were also presented with a watch donated by the run’s official sponsors Festina Watches.

The male category winners were Alex Schembri (St Patrick’s) over 35, Joseph Saliba (Żurrieq) over 40, Jude Zammit over 45, Abraham Zammit (St Patrick’s) over 50, Frank Muscat (Gozo RC) over 55, and Em-manuel Camilleri over 60.

The winners in women’s categories were Karen Amato over 35, Stephanie Azzopardi over 40, Marian Belsten over 55, and Monica Piscopo (St Patrick’s) over 60.

The junior races for boys were won by Jean Paul Debono (Żurrieq Wolves) Under-20 – 40:34 – and Stefano Pace Parascandalo (Żurrieq Wolves) Under-16 – 42:00.
