Six lobsters waiting in a Qormi supermarket for a shopper to turn them into a delicious dish were scooped from the jaws of death and given their own tank at the national aquarium in Qawra.

The lucky spiny crustaceans have joined the 1,000 other stars at the aquarium that opens to the public later this month though some private viewings have been held.

Curator Mike Hutchinson explained that sourcing fish and sea creatures for the aquarium included taking a look at what’s available at local fish markets.

He noted that lobsters adapted to new environments and the langoustes would settle down in the tank quickly because their new home was a replica of their natural environment.
