Canespro is a new treatment for fungal nail infection launched by Bayer Healthcare, makers of Canesten. The product follows last year’s launch of Canesten Bifonazole Once Daily Cream for athlete’s foot.
Comprising a urea ointment tube, a set of specially designed plasters and a plastic nail scraper, it has been clinically proven to be effective in gradually removing infected parts of the nail within two to three weeks.
Follow-up treatment with a general anti-fungal cream is recommended after treatment with Canespro.
Existing over-the-counter topical treatments tend to be lacquer or pen-type products and can take several months to work, but when using Canespro, visible results are seen within only a few days of application.
Fungal nail infections affect about four per cent of the adult UK population. The infection is more common on toe nails than on finger nails.
Athlete’s foot and nail trauma significantly increase the susceptibility to the infection.
