Six consortia have been short-listed and invited to submit final bids for a Long Term Power Purchase Agreement and a Gas Supply Agreement, the government said today.

They are: Daewoo Shipping and Marine Engineering Company Ltd,  ElectroGas Malta Consortium, Edison SPA, Endeavour Energy Holdings LLC and Exodus Crossing LLC, Soffimat Gestamp, and Yildirim Tecnicas Power and Gas.

The Energy Ministry said it embarked on the process as soon as the new administration took over, with the first call for expressions of interest issued less than a month after the general election.

There were 19 initial submissions, a sign of strong interest in the project, the ministry said.

The Ministry and Enemalta are also conducting the necessary studies and consultations so that Mepa would eventually issue the required permits.

The ministry said the project was on track and in line with the government's commitment to reduce power and water tariffs and ensure there was cleaner air.
