The US Embassy in Malta has awarded a grant of $26,000 to MGRM. The funds will support the professional development of MGRM and its “Rainbow Project” to provide counselling services to LGBT people and organize educational outreach in the community, the embassy said.

The Rainbow Project will support social work, youth work, psychological and legal assistance to Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Intersex and Questioning individuals. It will also offer consultancy and training services to other professionals and entities working with LGBTIQ people within the care sector.

U.S. Ambassador Gina Abercrombie-Winstanley stated that US policy was based on the belief that LGBTIQ rights are human rights, and reiterated her commitment to supporting the Malta Gay Rights Movement, We Are and Drachma in their efforts to advance human rights and, in particular, the rights of gay people in Malta.

The presentation was made to Gabi Calleja, coordinator of the MGRM.
