Passenger movements at Malta International Airport last month increased by 5.8 per cent reaching a record 471,210, the airport said this afternoon.

Aircraft movements and seat capacity increased by 7.7 per cent and nine per cent, respectively when compared to the same period last year, while the average seat load factor decreased by 2.5 percentage points to 82.6 per cent.

The maximum take-off weight (MTOW) increased by 7.8 per cent on that registered in July last year, while cargo and mail reduced by 4.2 per cent.

All the core markets, registered increases with Italy, Spain and Germany showing an increase of 15.5, 5.1 and 3.2 per cent, respectively. The largest market, the United Kingdom, recorded a slight increase 0.5 per cent and the French market of 0.3 per cent.

MIA said that over the first seven months of the year, passenger movements increased by 8.4 per cent when compared to the same period last year. The increase was mainly due to an increase in seat capacity.
