The Pembroke Athleta FC women’s team recently conducted a short training camp in Plovdiv, Bulgaria, as preparation for the new season.

The Pembroke group, 20 in all, included players and officials. They were headed by Yvonne Debono and women’s section club director Dorita Agius.

This was the Pembroke girls’ second trip outside the country following their participation in the Wales Super Cup two years ago.

During the stay in Plovdiv, Pem-broke also figured in two friendly matches against local teams Ekomet Plovdiv and LP SuperSport Sofia. Training was under the hands of Bulgarian UEFA A licence holder M. Cherghev and club coach Rikky Pace.

Most of the players in the Pembroke squad have now been together for the past six years. They will continue with their pre-season training and looking to produce a strong challenge in the BOV First Division championship next season.

Pembroke start their commit-ments in the national league with an arduous task as they face champions Birkirkara in their opener at the Mosta ground on September 9.

Next season, Pembroke Athleta will also field a team in the girls’ Under-16 league organised by the Malta FA.
