Demonstrators return to the streets of Istanbul after calls for anti-government protests were made on social media.

The police stepped in to put a stop to the activities.

Protests have continued sporadically in recent weeks after a nationwide wave of demonstrations in June against Prime Minister Tayyip Erdogan. His critics accuse him of becoming increasingly authoritarian.

Those demonstrations began with a small protest against a planned redevelopment a city park. But as unrest grew, five people died and thousands were injured in the biggest challenge to Erdogan's decade-old rule.
