Q: Two weeks ago, I bought a brand new mobile phone from a local retail outlet. It has just stopped working. I would like to know if I am entitled to a new one. I paid a lot of money for this phone and it stopped working after only two weeks. If the seller wants to repair it, can I refuse and ask for a replacement?

A: Even though the phone is only two weeks old, consumer law still allows the seller to try to repair it, especially if replacing the phone is expensive. However, if you are offered repair, it must be carried out without unnecessary delay and inconvenience.

You are entitled to a mobile phone to use while yours is being repaired.

If the repair proves to be insufficient and the same problem recurs, then you can request that the phone is replaced.
