Following the popularity of the song Tomorrow, which not only landed a respectable placing at the 2013 Eurovision Song Contest but also enjoyed significant European chart success, Maltese singer Gianluca Bezzina recently released his debut album,Waiting for Tomorrow.

It was launched in Valletta, with Gianluca, accompanied by Boriz Cezek and Dean Muscat, performing a live acoustic set for all those present.

Waiting for Tomorrow was released by independent UK label Albam Records and features 10 tracks, all written and produced by Cezek and Muscat, essentially the same team that wrote Tomorrow. Commenting about the album, Gianluca said: “This collaboration started around a year ago. We’ve all worked so hard to make this album. I hope people enjoy it as much as we enjoyed making it.”

The album was recorded at Doyaya Studios, featuring original material written to suit Gianluca’s voice and style.

“We tried to keep the feel-good vibe, which has become synonymous with Gianluca, intact,” Cezek remarked. “The music incorporates various elements – from 1960s pop to swing and blue-eyed soul.”

Co-writer Muscat said they were confident of Gianluca’s potential, adding that “Waiting for Tomorrow is really only the start of what will be a great music career for this young artist”.

Music apart, the album is also linked to a philanthropic cause in that for each copy sold, €1 will go to the CC Cancer Research Fund that has been purposely set up by Calamatta Cuschieri Co. Ltd, who sponsored the album, in collaboration with the financial investment company to campaign for the prevention of cancer among young people.

Moreover, the company will also be matching every euro earned from sales of the album, hence doubling the proceeds that will go towards helping young people with cancer and to sponsor the purchase of medical equipment and other related initiatives.

This summer will be a busy one for the young artist, with various live appearances penciled in all over the island. In fact, just last week, Gianluca was a guest performer at Joseph Calleja’s prestigious annual concert at the Granaries, and this evening he will be playing on the closing night of the 2013 Farsons Beer Festival. On August 17, he will then perform at a concert in Gozo.
