What advantages does Malta have over other countries in the transportation sector?
Malta’s geographical location gives exclusive impetus to our transshipment operations operated at our freeport as vessels are more likely inclined towards the accessibility and well-serviced port available in the central Mediterranean.
Notwithstanding that our freeport is the third largest transshipment hub in the central Mediterranean, we do have our share of disadvantages on other modes of transport such as road and air services. Just to give one simple example, our road journeys to and from Malta have to be completed via ferry crossings from certain ports according to fixed schedules, which are sometimes not aligned to the industry requirements. On the other hand, with our air services – although they have improved over the years with more carriers calling at our airport – we are still at a disadvantage when compared to our counterparts operating from mainland Europe.

Not only does technology play a vital role in our industry, but it is evolving in a way in which it cannot be ignored. From sophisticated fleet management solutions to web-enabled customer-booking systems which integrate the whole supply chain in one simple transaction, technology is an important partner.

Since we also specialise in temperature-controlled transportation of items such as perishables, we have to rely on live data collected from our equipment which gives us peace of mind that whatever is transported is in the right temperature ambient requested by the shipper or the consignee.

Our network of partners is always developing. We do not just partner with someone just for the sake of it but we do ensure that our partners share the same vision and values. Presently we operate from all major hubs across Europe though we do offer global forwarding both by sea and air.
