An asbestos roof adjacent to the offices of the consumer authority in Blata l-Bajda will be replaced next month, Consumer Affairs Minister Helena Dalli announced this morning.

She said that despite various reports prepared under the previous administration, no action had ever been taken to protect workers' health and safety.

After commissioning another report which confirmed the findings of previous reports, meetings were held with the landlords, Mizzi Estates, and an agreement was reached for the ceiling to be replaced.

Work will be undertaken next month, at a time when most employees are on leave, to minimise the inconvenience and health hazard.

The minister was speaking during a visit to the offices where she toured workers, assuring them that the asbestos ceiling which was creating a health hazard for them, was being tackled and will be replaced.
