The Gladiators have taken the MRFU 10s League by storm, beating every opponent and ending the season with a 100 per cent record.

The Gladiators’ season started slowly as the team tried to find its feet in a couple of friendly matches where the results did not go in their favour. However, the out-comes gave the coaches a good idea of the work required to build a winning team.

With a solid core of players, the Gladiators started to progress and the hard work put in on their training ground paid off. The first competitive match resulted in a resounding victory which set the ball rolling, a momentum that persisted until the championship ended.

The club also had four players representing Malta in official games.

Club captain George Zammit Montebello and vice-captain Pascal Holland were called up to the Malta ‘A’ international squad, while Andrew Mercieca and Robin Cutajar were selected for the national U-18s.

In a statement, the club said they are proud of the players’ contribution last season and are confident that, through hard work and dedication, the team will maintain its meteoric growth.

“The club firmly believes in the social side of rugby and works hard to foster good relationships with fans and opponents alike with many social activities organised for our members,” the Gladiators said.

The club’s youth academy is also improving with a strong influx of new members through school events and festivals.

The club has ambitious plans for the youth, David Cutajar, the club president and youth head coach, said.

“It has been a fantastic season for the club with our seniors, youth and juniors,” Cutajar said.

“We have a great club spirit and we’ve put together a dedicated and skilled coaching team.

“Our goal is to become a top-level club, feeding the national team and catering for both social players and serious athletes – a big challenge but achievable.”
