The number of tourists who came to Malta in May increased by 10 per cent over the same month last year, amounting to more than 141,750.

Total nights went up by 14 per cent to 789,477, the National Statistics Office said.

A positive performance was registered across the hotel categories in terms of arrivals and guest nights.

The biggest share of guest nights was recorded in four-star hotels with 369,175 nights, or 46.8 per cent of the total. Guest night increases of 35.9 per cent were registered in three-star and 10.5 per cent in four-star hotels.

All hotel categories had increases in occupancy levels when compared to last year. The highest increase, at almost 12 per cent, was in three-star hotels.
