Gozitan waterpolo team Otters ASC have raised their profile in the ASA Division One league by several notches these last few years after the club’s ambitious drive to promote water sport on the sister island seems to have reaped its dividends.
Otters are now a team to reckon with following the transition from the wooden spoonists days to a more organised outfit in the national league.
The change also came about thanks to the ex-tended backing of sponsors VJ Salomone, repre-sentatives of Nivea.
While young Gozitan players are being groomed to reach the required standards, they are also being complimented by the inclusion of experienced players from the local scene and foreigners.
This summer the overseas players in the team are Andrei Edward, who also acts as head coach, and Ivan Vuksanovic.
A few days ago Otters ASC launched their 2013 Summer Swimming School which has seen an ever increasing number of children enrolling.
Under the expert guidance of coach Alfred Cachia, and with the help of teachers and University students, lessons at the Marsalforn club are being held on Tuesdays and Thursdays between 3 and 5pm.
Children from the age of four can participate.
The Otters swimming school is sponsored by bmit – Data Centre, Cloud and Managed Service Provider.
