VLTC hosted a Green Tennis event recently to launch the NexiaBT U-16 European tournament which is going to be played here between August 5 and 10.

Boys and girls between the ages of nine and 12 took part under the guidance of John Cassar, a VLTC coach.

At the end of play, Twanny Camilleri on behalf of NexiaBT, and Mark Camilleri, deputy president of the Malta Tennis Federation, presented trophies to the young winners.

The U-16 tournament will consist of boys and girls singles with a main draw of 48 in each category. Boys and girls doubles and qualifiers are also being held. The event has attracted significant interest from across all parts of the continent as far as Russia.

Mark Schranz, Benjamin Farrugia, Katrina Sammut, Bettina Booker and Maria Giorgia Farrugia Sacco will be the players representing the country in the U-16 competition.

In a statement, the tournament organisers thanked NexiaBT for their sponsorship and San Michel table water for their support.
