Port worker Alexander Scerri was today granted bail against a deposit of €400 and a personal guarantee of €3,000 after he pleaded not guilty to slightly injuring two police officers.

Mr Scerri, 45, of Vittoriosa, also pleaded not guilty to threatening and assaulting the officers, violently resisting arrest, driving dangerously, being in possession of cannabis and relapsing.

The court heard that Mr Scerri was stopped by police on patrol after they noticed him driving erratically. He was smoking a joint and trouble started when the police ordered him out of the car.

It was noted that the man, who has a drinking problem, had registered progress with the help of a probation officer but this needed to be ongoing.
