Malta may soon have its first research facility dedicated to aviation technology.

The National Aerospace Centre would provide new job opportunities for graduates, professionals in research and innovation as well as jobs in administrative roles.

It would also provide facilities for learning, a laboratory, test areas, flight simulation and air traffic among others.

Tourism Minister Karmenu Vella said aviation in Malta was growing at a fast pace.

The Government’s intention was to map out a direction for this sector which, until a few months ago, was allowed to evolve without a plan.

Aviation will be elevated to fall under an authority instead of a directorate. A national aviation policy will also be drafted.
