Borussia Dortmund striker Robert Lewandowski has accepted that his club will not allow him to join Bayern Munich in this transfer window.

The 24-year-old Poland international last month revealed his desire to leave Borussia Dortmund, with reports suggesting terms had already been agreed with Bayern Munich and that he would make the move next summer if not this.

Dortmund have since ruled out selling the player to any team – domestic or foreign – this year, leaving Lewandowski to see out the remaining 12 months of his contract.

And he has come to terms with his situation, telling reporters: “I have to accept that I have to stay in Dortmund.”

Borussia Dortmund general manager Hans-Joachim Watzke welcomed Lewandowski’s stance, saying: “That’s good. But we never had any doubt as to his good character.”

Coach Jurgen Klopp, who last week expressed his belief that Lewandowski will be a Bayern player for the 2014/15 campaign, added: “He could not be more professional.”

Lewandowski has netted 54 goals in 98 Bundesliga appearances for Borussia Dortmund.
